Invitation to attend the Zambia NTB / AFCFTA Sensitization Workshop, 12 October 2023.

As a member of SADC, Zambia has been cited in various reported regional NTBs both as a complainant and a respondent. Some of the reported NTBs remain unresolved due to a lack of responses from other national focal points and some NTBs were never reported.

Zambia has ratified the AfCFTA Agreement and expressed interest in trading with the rest of the continent under the Guided Trade Initiative. Zambia’s strategy for the implementation of the AfCFTA identifies capacitating small businesses as one of the strategic goals to improve the country’s chances of exploiting opportunities presented by the AFCFTA.

The NTB/ AFCFTA Sensitization workshop will bring together Zambian private sector doing business in the SADC region with the intention to address issues related to resolution of non-tariff barriers and readiness to trade with the rest of the continent through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The planned workshop will seek to assess the prevalence of NTBs in Zambia, evaluate the understanding of the tools available as well and capacitate the private sector on the usage of the reporting platform. In addition to a broad understanding of the AfCFTA, it is planned that since Zambia is already actively trading in the Guided Trade Initiative(GTI), there would be lessons shared by Zambian private sector enterprises for the benefit of those considering trade.
