SADC BC meets with SADC Executive Secretary

In January, Peter Varndell (Secretariat – SADC Business Council) and Godfrey Simbeye (representing the SADC BC Chairperson Angelina Ngalula and the Tanzania Private Sector Forum) met with to H.E. Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax, Southern African Development Community (SADC) Executive Secretary at the SADC Headquarter in Gaborone.

The meeting discussed the launch of the SADC BC by H. E. Dr. John Pombe Magufuli, President of the United Republic of Tanzania at the 4th SADC Industrialisation Week in August 2019 IN Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Other talking points of the meeting included the operationalisation of the SADC BC as well as the planning for the upcoming 5th SADC Industrialisation Week to be hosted in Mozambique on the margins of the Head of State and Government in 2020. The representatives of the SADC BC and the SADC Secretary also discussed the consultation an inclusion of the SADC BC during the SADC Secretariat structures meetings with the Member States.

The SADC BC is a Regional Apex Body of National Business Associations of the 16 SADC Member States and six Regional Business Association in Southern Africa. It is manded by the private sector to be the prime partner to the public sector – influencing high-level policy-making with regards to market access, industrialisation, value chains development and socio-economic development at a regional, continental, and global level.
